I haven’t found perfect sources for much of what Google’s AI served up to me (some of it is behind paywalls), but it aligns with what I believed. Troll Associates was founded in 1958, an educational book publishing company distributing children’s books and educational materials. Allegedly once the second-largest American publisher in the school book club market. Switched to Troll Communications, in 1995, of which Pearson became major stakeholder, after which it changed hands a few times until 2003 when it filed for bankruptcy and had assets liquidated, some having been acquired by Scholastic.
Their business was larger than just the eduware that I encountered, some of which was clear from the “I Can Read About” titles which contained books that were actually published in the late 1970s (I Can Read About Pecos Bill, I Can Read About Reptiles, etc.).
